Kennedy on Cusp of OCAA Women’s Basketball History
- Submitted by

The St. Clair College Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams host Niagara College from Welland on Sunday in pivotal OCAA West Region matchups as they jockey for playoff positions in the season’s final weeks.  The women tip off at 1:00pm on Sunday with the men’s game immediately following at 3:00pm.  The day could also hold historical significance for 5th year Lady Saints’ player Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph’s) who is nearing the OCAA career record for all-time scoring.

Kennedy is currently sitting at 1,322 points which is just 21 shy of the OCAA record held by Jesseca Brown from Redeemer University College at 1,343.  Brown hasn’t had a long time to enjoy her standard having just set the record at the completion of last season after a 5-year career.  Kennedy has been slowly chipping away at the record and along the way has received recognition in several individual areas in addition to helping St. Clair to an OCAA Bronze Medal in her rookie year.

Kennedy is averaging 14.6 points per game this season and is top 20 in OCAA scoring which is just below her career average of 15.6 points per game.  In her five seasons for the Saints she has played in 150 games including exhibition and playoff appearances.  Over that time Kennedy has amassed a remarkable 2,201 career points in a St. Clair uniform which is nearly 1,000 points better than any other Saints female player.  In fact, earlier this season she passed the St. Clair Men’s Basketball leader Henry Koscielski (1974-78) who put up 2,076 career points.

With 4 games remaining in the regular season Kennedy has a chance to surpass the record and add to her final total.  The St. Clair Women are 10-6 this season and in the hunt for a home playoff game if they can stay ahead of Niagara (10-6) for 4th place in the West Region.

See below a list of accolades that Kennedy has garnered from St. Clair and the OCAA to date.
