Women's Softball and Basketball Score Big with Murphy
- Submitted by

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women’s Softball and Basketball teams will both benefit from the addition of local standout two-sport athlete Shae-Lyn Murphy.  The honour roll student is a product of Holy Names and will make a gentle transition to the other side of South Windsor into St. Clair’s Pre-Health Sciences program.  Murphy signed her Letter of Intent last week and has designs on completing the Collaborative Nursing Degree program at St. Clair.

Murphy can line up on the diamond at the shortstop position but is equally adept at covering ground in centerfield and will be a threat at the plate or on the base paths.  She competed for both the Windsor West and the Windsor Wildcats club programs locally winning the Provincial Women’s Softball Association Top Player of the Year Award in 2015, 2016 and 2017.  She also helped her team to the 2015 A Division Championship as well as the 2019 USSSA Eastern World Series Silver Medal.

St. Clair Women’s Softball Head Coach Doug Wiseman said about the Murphy signing, “I see Shae being an immediate impact player in the OCAA.  She has a great work ethic and an infectious personality that will influence her teammates in a positive manner.”

Wiseman further complimented, “Shae is a dynamic player offensively and defensively with great speed.  I am looking forward to seeing how well she works with Jenna Hillman up the middle. We are really glad to have her in Saints colours.”

The 5’2” point guard guided Holy Names to the 2017 WECSSA Championship on the hardwood in addition to playing club ball for the Windsor Valiants and Tecumseh Saints programs.  Murphy was recognized by her high school as the Top Female Student-Athlete in 2017, 2018 and 2019 in addition to being as a 4-time WECSSAA 1st Team All-City selection in both basketball and softball.

Saints Women’s Basketball Head Coach Andy Kiss was ecstatic to add her an already stellar 2020 recruiting class saying, “Shae has been a somewhat under the radar player with JUEL level talent.  After losing point guard Anna Ulicny to graduation we feel this is perfect timing.”

Kiss continued, “Shae is a natural athlete with a high IQ for the game and plays a true point guard with the ability to orchestrate on the floor.  She is a two-way player who is not only a difference maker on offense but also a stout defender.  Can’t wait to add her to our basketball family this season and beyond."
