Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Athletic Department is announcing that extremely successful Men’s Baseball Head Coach Dave Cooper has chosen to step down from his Saints varsity position.  Cooper will remain as Head Coach of the St. Clair Green Giants Summer Collegiate program and will also act in an advisory role with the Saints Varsity team coaching staff.

Cooper has been at the helm for the last 9 years beginning in 2012 when St. Clair participated in the Canadian Inter-Collegiate Baseball Association and quickly asserted the Saints as the dominant program in the country winning that fall’s National Championship.  The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) formed a league that began the following fall season and Cooper wasted no time in controlling the loop winning the first five regular season pennants and provincial championships.  Capping that run was another National Collegiate Championship in 2017.  Between 2014 to 2016 Cooper also guided the Saints to a 41-game OCAA win streak across regular season and playoff action.  In 2013 and 2014 the OCAA challenged the OUA for a combined Championship tournament where St. Clair added two more titles to Cooper’s resume.

Cooper’s storied 8-season baseball coaching career at St. Clair amassed a 124-22 regular season record (0.849 Winning %) to go with a 46-11 playoff record (0.801 Winning %).  Including exhibition play Cooper’s teams held a remarkable 213-49-1 overall record (0.810 Winning %).  Cooper was honoured with three OCAA Coach of the Year Awards (2014, 2015, 2019) in addition to three St. Clair College Inter-Collegiate Coach of the Year Awards (2013, 2016, 2018).  22 Saints were named OCAA League All-Stars during his time to go with three Batting Champions and five Pitcher of the Year recipients.  During championship play Cooper helped 33 St. Clair players to tournament recognition including five Most Valuable Player Awards.  Further player accolades during Cooper’s time include three OCAA Player of the Year Awards and a Rookie of the Year.

St. Clair College Vice President Ron Seguin stated, “We cannot thank Dave enough for his 9 years of incredible success with the Saints.  He made it possible for the Saints to be regarded as Canada’s best collegiate baseball program.  Dave is an incredible baseball mind.  No one is better when it comes to game strategy and his work ethic is unmatched.”

“We are thrilled Dave will continue to be involved in the college’s baseball program and be a mentor to an impressive group of his alumni as they carry the St. Clair Baseball tradition forward,” finished Seguin.

Effective immediately Assistant Coach Roberto Duncan has been elevated to assume the role of Head Coach and Manager of the Saints Baseball program.  Duncan was a free agent signing by the Boston Red Sox and spent three years (2010-12) playing in the Dominican Summer League and a season in the Panamanian Professional League (PROBEIS) before joining the Saints varsity roster in 2015.  He helped the Saints to a pair of OCAA Championships along with a National Silver Medal with a career batting average of 0.289 while playing primarily first base for St. Clair.  Duncan also played a season for the St. Clair Green Giants in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League in 2017 helping the squad to a North Division Championship.
