London, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team went 1-1 Friday at the OCAA Provincial Championship being hosted at Fanshawe College in London. The Lady Saints lost 6-2 to Durham College (Oshawa) in their opening game but defeated Conestoga College (Kitchener) 9-0 right afterwards and now advance to the gold medal qualifier Saturday morning.
The Saints allowed 4 fielding errors and fell behind 6-0 after three innings in the opening loss to Durham. St. Clair answered with singles in the 5th and 6th but it wasn't enough. Shortstop Jenna Hillman (Windsor, ON/Tecumseh Vista Academy) was named St. Clair Player of the Game after an RBI single.
The Saints rebounded nicely in their second game with pitcher Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) taking Player of the Game honours after throwing a complete game 4-hit shutout while striking out 8 batters. Jordan Taylor (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) had a pair of singles and 5 RBI's in the win to lead the Saints offensively.
The Saints will take on Durham College again in the gold medal round qualifier at 10:00am Saturday with Humber awaiting the winner.
