Men's Golf Taking Park in Canadian University/College Championship
The St. Clair College men's golf team is in Sudbury this week to take part in the Canadian University/College Championship presented by BDO at Idylwylde Golf & Country Club from June 2-6.
This will be the first time the St. Clair men's team has qualified for the event. This prestigious event has been taking place for over 20 years. The Saints qualified by finishing 4th at the CCAA nationals this past fall in Quebec. St. Clair won OCAA Team Bronze as well this past season. It was the first golf Division I team medal for the men since 2007.
The event features the top college and university golf teams from across Canada and includes 3 CCAA men's teams and 17 U Sports men's teams. The Championship is a four round event with a cut taking place after the third round on Wednesday. The Saints took part in the official practice round on Sunday.
St. Clair has had some individual participation in the women's division in recent years including Shannon Coffey last spring.
Taking part for St. Clair will be Owen Laverty (Whitby), Simon Moir (London), Nate Woods (Belleville), John Van Bilsen (Glencoe) and Ethan Slaats (West Lorne).
Head Coach Kevin Corriveau is excited to be taking his team to this event for the first time ever. "I am very excited for our program and players to have the opportunity to participate in a Golf Canada National Championship. It should be a great week and a tremendous learning opportunity for our players that they will remember for a long time."
