Men’s Basketball Advance to Quarterfinals with Homecourt Win

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team (17-2) advanced to the quarterfinal round with a convincing 120-63 crossover playoff win over Fleming College (Peterborough) Saturday evening at the SportsPlex.

In a blink the Saints were up 16-3 before racing to a 36-16 lead after the first quarter while shooting nearly 67% from the field which included 7 triples.  Fleming fared better in the second quarter creating opportunities at the line as St. Clair worked through some foul trouble.  However, the deficit slightly widened to 56-32 in favour of the Saints by halftime.  The quick pace was too much for the visitors and in the third quarter Fleming could only muster 12 points as St. Clair took a commanding 91-44 lead into the fourth.  The gap continued to increase to as much as 60 points late in the game with the Saints cruising to the victory.

St. Clair shot a blistering 56% from the field in the contest and made 16 long balls while holding the Phoenix to just 27% shooting with 6 triples.  The Saints took advantage of 27 Fleming turnovers to score 45 points in response and won the war on the glass 46-31 while pouring in 52 points around the basket.

Six St. Clair players reached double figures with eleven Saints recording a bucket led by Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) who had a game high 23 points to go with 8 assists and 4 steals.  Amari Frye (Ypsilanti, MI) scored 19 points for the Saints adding 5 helpers and 3 steals.  St. Clair's Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) was a carom short of a double-double after 15 points and 9 rebounds while adding a pair of blocked shots.  Ethan Reid-Massiah (Toronto, ON) came off the bench to net 13 points for the Saints while teammates Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) and Jacob Masters (Toronto, ON) each chipped in with 12 points apiece.  In reserve time Malcolm Perrin (St. Catharines) had a notable performance for St. Clair pulling down 10 rebounds to go with 7 points.

St. Clair will host Lambton College (Sarnia) in their quarterfinal matchup on Saturday at 4:00pm with a trip to the OCAA Final Four Provincial Championship at stake.  Lambton advanced today with a 64-58 road win over Seneca Polytechnic in North York.
