Men's Basketball Benefit from Holy Names Connection
Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team will benefit greatly from their South Windsor neighbourhood connection to Holy Names Catholic High School. The highly successful Knights' basketball program will be sending three of its standouts just 7 minutes up the road as the Saints gathered the commitments of Max Heath (LaSalle, ON/Holy Names), Cole Loewenberg (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) and Arlind Avdo (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) who are ready to join the 2026-27 St. Clair rotation.
Heath is a 6'3" guard who was a WECSSAA All-Star and part of four City Championship teams while helping Holy Names to a pair of Bronze Medal finishes at OFSAA.
Saints Co-Head Coach Brendon Seguin said of Heath, "Max is very athletic and fits our fast-paced offense very well. He can attack the rim and finish over larger defenders with the ability to make shots from the perimeter. His athleticism allows him to switch onto bigger players on the defensive end, and he rebounds well for a guard. Max has a very high ceiling, and we look forward to his development at St. Clair."
Heath will begin studies at St. Clair in the Electrical Techniques program this fall.
Loewenberg is another 6'3" swing player with WECSSAA All-Star recognition on his resume with four city championships, three SWOSSAA titles and two OFSAA Bronze Medals in his collection.
Seguin commented about Loewenberg, "We are excited to add Cole to our roster for the upcoming year. His ability to make shots from the perimeter coupled with a strong pull up jumper will fit well with our offensive style. Cole is a competitive player on both ends of the floor and will push players around him to be better. Cole has a bright future, and we are looking forward to him joining the program."
Loewenberg was an honour roll student at Holy Names and will be pursuing a diploma in St. Clair's Protection, Security & Invest program starting this fall.
Avdo stands 6'5" with experience at the small forward and shooting guard positions but comes to St. Clair after spending a year at Kuyper College (Grand Rapids, MI) who compete in Division II of the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA). He was named Kuyper's Rookie of the Year Award in a reserve role with the Cougars. Before that Avdo was a WECSSAA All-Star and earned the Mr. Basketball Award after helping Holy Names to four city titles, a SWOSSAA championship along with a provincial Bronze Medal.
"Arlind fills a need for us as 3-point threat and can take over stretches of games with his shooting ability. He will allow us to space the floor and open driving lanes for our guards. He also brings good size to the wing and will strengthen our team on the defensive glass. Arlind has the potential to be one of the top shooters in the OCAA," said Seguin of Avdo.
Avdo will be joining Heath in St. Clair's Electrical Techniques classroom this fall.
Co-Head Coach Matt Sykes noted about all three incoming athletes, "Adding three competitors who all played together at Holy Names is an important step to building for the future. It will make an immediate impact on our culture and will bring passion from the community with another local high school program where we have enjoyed success from past players. These student-athletes are ready for the collegiate level as their high school program has prepared them well. We are looking forward to seeing all three of them suit up in the Green and Gold and think they will make a positive impact both on and off the court here at Saints Nation."
6'1" guard Jacob Asomani (Brampton, ON/St. Edmund Campion) will also join the Saints after two seasons at St. Clair County Community College (Port Huron, MI). He was a 2-time Honorable Mention All-Eastern Conference team selection of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association helping the Skippers to the Great Lakes District B Championship Game this past March while appearing in the starting unit nearly half of their games over two years. Asomani also earned a spot on the prestigious Eastern Conference All-Defensive Team twice after establishing himself as one of the league's premier lockdown defenders.
Academically, Asomani will be looking to accomplish a diploma in St. Clair's Business Administration – Marketing program.
