Women's Soccer Still in Hunt for National Bronze

Women's Soccer Still in Hunt for National Bronze

The St. Clair Saints women's soccer team had a much better day in their first ever CCAA National Championship on Thursday.

St. Clair used a stifling defence and timely goals to blank the Concordia University Thunder 4-0 in the bronze quarter-finals at the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Soccer National Championship in Red Deer, Alberta.

In the 14th minute, the Saints broke the stalemate. Victoria Walsh, a third-year forward, broke free from the Thunder's defenders and scored on the left side of the net past Concordia's goalkeeper.

Early in the second half, St. Clair went up by a pair. Talia Liburdi, a third-year forward from Tecumseh, Ontario, manoeuvred around Concordia's defence and struck the ball low into the back of the net.

In the 76th minute, Walsh recorded her second goal of the game, lifting the Saints to a 3-0 lead. Two minutes later, Kaedence Ingram added St. Clair's fourth marker.

Lily Collins was named the player of the game for St. Clair while keeper Taytum Busch from CUE won the award.

St. Clair will now face the PACWEST (British Columbia) Champion Vancouver Island University Mariners on Thursday at 7:30 pm Eastern with the winner advancing to the Bronze Medal Match on Saturday.
