Cross-Country Cap Season at National Championships in PEI
Charlottetown, PEI – The St. Clair College Men's Cross-Country team along with a lone Women's entry competed at the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships held Saturday afternoon at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park at Brookvale Nordic in North Wiltshire, Prince Edward Island which is 25 minutes west of Charlottetown.
The extremely challenging but picturesque stadium layout was soggy from rain earlier in the week and more showers on race day made for slippery course conditions. Thirty-three schools qualified for the event representing four conferences from across Canada which produced 114 runners in both the Women's and Men's race.
The St. Clair Men were led by Brendan Currie (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) who crossed the line 13th in a time of 26:45 over the 8km trail. Next was Luke Nelson (Windsor, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) who finished 46th for the Saints with a time of 28:56. Noah Nicoletti (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) was 60th stopping his watch at 29:44 followed by teammate Daniel Barnes (Iona Station, ON/West Elgin) who was the final counting runner for St. Clair with a time of 30:48 in 74th position. The St. Clair Men positioned 10th Place as a team against 17 total schools entered in the event.
Other finishers for the Saints included Quinten Wentoniuk (Belle River, ON/Belle River) in 89th Place (32:29) and Chase Canty (Windsor, ON/Vincent Masey) who battled injury to cross in 105th Place (37:00).
Ana-Maria Fodor (Windsor, ON/Vincent Masey) was the only female qualifier for the Saints, and she covered the 6km course in a time of 26:14 which stood 46th in the field.
The RSEQ conference swept the podium in the Women's and Men's team competitions as well as taking the top two positions in the Mixed event. Cégep Garneau of Quebec City won their fourth consecutive National Women's team title to go with Silver in the Mixed and Men's events. Cégep Sainte-Foy (Quebec City, QC) was the recipient of the Gold in the Men's team event as well as the Mixed event while adding a Bronze in the Women's event. Dawson College (Montreal, QC) was the Silver Medalist in the Women's team event while Cégep Victoriaville (Victoriaville, QC) was the Bronze Medalist in the Men's team event. Red Deer Polytechnic (Red Deer, AB) was the only school outside Quebec to win a team medal squeezing out the Bronze in the Mixed event.
Mia Simpson of Dawson College won the Women's race with a time of 22:52 while Xavier St-Onge of Sainte-Foy won the Men's race with a time of 25:10.
